In Your Bin July 22nd: Resilience!
So what does a vegetable grower do to be resilient in an ever changing climate? Grow a variety of vegetables suitable to all weather possibilities and grow varieties of each of those vegetables!
Mono culture is not resilient. We only need to look at huge fields of corn struggling for water this season to know it is precarious to grow only one crop. That brings us to summer squash! Zucchini is definitely resilient and it comes in all sorts of varieties. As a member of a very large summer squash family we have fallen into calling everything zucchini here at the farm.
We thought it may be helpful to send along this link to introduce you to some of the zucchini you may meet this season and the summer squash varieties we grow. At the moment we are harvesting Yellow Crookneck, Tempest & Zephyr, Butterfingers, Pantheon & Patty Pan of which there is also Jaune Verte & Lemon Sun. So as you can see it is a big family we are planting for resilience, and this is only one of the vegetables here at Willo’Wind. It is also true to say that Adrian cannot resist trying new varieties of everything…!
