In Your Bin July 29th: Experimenting with Fruits
Part of our vision for the farm for a sustainable food system is to add varieties of fruit. The challenge is to grow them organically and it takes time to grow a fruit tree!
We have met with some success in our plum trees. Our most successful tree was laden with fruit which made it a target for a windstorm that went through the farm last Thursday. So we had to get the plums off its branches as they lay on the ground.
Two members of our farm team, Nibardo & Cecilio, are seen busy harvesting.

Fortunately it seems there is enough of the tree standing that it can recover, albeit in a couple of years! In the meantime we have learned that this variety of plum does well on the farm and we will be growing more of this.
