First off I just want to give a big shout out to thank and acknowledge the men who migrate from Mexico to work on our farm each summer: Filemon, Nibardo, and Cecilio. These men usually have a heavy workload on their shoulders each season, but this year it has been exceptionally heavy. Not only did we have to deal with a drought and high heat temps that kept trying to kill all our crops for two months, but they have also been keeping the farm running while I have been dealing with an injury. As some of you may know I have been dealing with a herniated disc in my lower back since the beginning of June. This herniation has been putting a lot of pressure on my L5 sciatic nerve which has caused considerable pain in my hip and down my right leg to my toes. Due to this I have been unable to walk, sit, drive, etc… since the beginning of June. As you can imagine this has made running a farm difficult to say the least. My journey to heal is still ongoing and hopefully will continue to progress to where I am more functional. In the meantime though, I couldn’t be more grateful to all of our crew and everyone else who has stepped up to keep this farm running. Without them getting through this season just wouldn’t have been possible!
Another thing on the farm that made getting through this season possible was the new equipment we invested in at the beginning of the season through our Community Bond Program. As you may remember we put a call out for investments into our farm through a Community Bond Program. The response to this was amazing! We quickly raised the funds needed for some critical equipment needed for the farm. Two of the main pieces of equipment purchased were a water wheel transplanter and a mechanical riding row cultivator.

Both investments couldn’t have come at a better time and helped us get the crop in faster and with water! As well it made a big difference staying on top of the weeds after planting. A big thank you as well to everyone who purchased the Community Bonds and supported our farm in such a meaningful way. To anyone who missed this opportunity and is interested, look out in the coming years for the next opportunity to invest!

We just finished putting our last planting of fall crops in the ground. It truly feels like fall is here and winter is on its way when there is nothing left to plant for the season (excluding Garlic). The fall crops are looking good and we are busy getting all the storage crops out of the field and starting to squirrel them away in the coolers for the coming frozen months. Maybe it’s not just the lack of bugs, perfect weather and beautiful colours that makes fall my favorite season but maybe it’s the big exhale most farmers take this time of year when we come to the realization that we’ve made through the growing season to the end again!
It is a privilege to grow food for our community and I’m honored to work with all our crew/staff and our customers to make that happen.
