Food is not a widget!
This great statement is from an article on the importance of preserving rare breed livestock. What is a widget you ask? Something that can be industrially produced in great quantity. The glory of food is in the incredible diversity of tastes, aromas, and textures. A tomato is not an inanimate object that can be mass produced. The very soil it grows in, the position of the sun, the moisture it receives, the variety of seed give it its own taste. Growing good food is a science and an art, not an assembly line!
Here at Willo’Wind we are not interested in widgets! Our practices aim to serve and cultivate the diversity necessary for sustainable agriculture. From the seeds we buy, the livestock we raise, to the very management of the soil our intention respects creation’s complex diversity.
As we head into the greenhouses come March we are preparing for: Summer CSA 2017 . You will note on the From The Pasture CSA form that we will not be offering the Chicken CSA this season. We will be raising meat birds for direct sales though and you will be able to purchase them that way.
Our goal for this season is to provide CSA bins to 130 families. You will find the application here
By signing up early in the season it gives us a good idea how many members will be returning and how many new members we can take on. This also helps in the planning of planting!
We look forward to sharing our farm with you and our vision for strong, local sustainable food systems! Join the CSA and discover good taste – leave widgets to the auto industry not agriculture!
Cheers, Adrian, Niall and Elizabeth
