As the saying goes many hands makes light work, or on the farm many hands means we get the work done-forget about the lightness!
Volunteering
We have lots of opportunities to work and volunteer on the farm. Whether it is just coming for the day to help us with harvesting or weeding and see what we do, staying for a week or two through the WWOOF (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) program.
Apprenticeship
For those looking for a in-depth experience consider apprenticing for the season through our CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) program. Apprentices in the CRAFT program gain a full in-depth experience of the day to day operations of the farm. Internships run for the full season from April to October. We ask for 50 hrs of labor per week, 5 days a week with 10 hr days. In return we provide you with a hands on learning experience, food and accommodation, a monthly stipend and bonus for those who stay for the duration of their commitment.
As an apprentice you will gain knowledge in all aspects of farming. On the market garden side: field preparation, planting and seeding, weed control, harvesting, processing, cover cropping, mulching, irrigation, and greenhouse management. The livestock side of the farm introduces apprentices to all aspects animal husbandry. This includes: chores (feeding and watering animals, collecting eggs), milking goats/cheese making, rotational grazing, making feed, hay and compost. There will also be lots of opportunity to learn about food preservation, Marketing, sustainable building, draft horse power and native land restoration. If you are interested we can also help you create your own farm plan.
We are looking people with a serious interest in learning how to farm, and we will do our best to provide you with a rich learning experience that will help prepare you to start farming, particularly if you are interested in farming with ecological and organic methods. We are looking for enthusiastic people who are willing to learn with hands-on experience.
