Willo’Wind’s First Batch of Piglets Born On Farm

On March 10th around 3am Sandy, our Birkshire sow, gave birth to 11 little piglets.  Close to 4 months ago Sandy was bred to a Large Black boar at another Organic Farm near Stouffville. Sandy is now  producing close to 10 kg (22 lbs) of milk per day. Her water consumption has gone up close to 10 fold and her feed consumption close to 3 times!  Our job now is to make sure Sandy is comfortable and has everything she needs to look after her litter, fresh straw to make her nest,  and extra feed and water to produce her milk. In 5 weeks these piglets will be weaned, giving  Sandy a rest and us more responsibility.
